This short document arose from a submission to the "Making Historical Manuscripts Computer-Readable" meeting, Monticello, February 2007.
Digitizing the Manuscripts of the British National Archives (formerly PRO)
Furthermore, during 2007 we will begin to add manuscript images to MEMSO. These images will be linked to the searchable texts to allow fast navigation between searchable calendar text and the original manuscript.
Future Plans
In the short term we shall continue to add books to MEMSO at an increasing rate, along with a growing resource of linked manuscripts. We encourage suggestions and feedback from researchers who want to see particular series made available. In the longer term, we are keen to create the most powerful web application available for the detailed interrogation of historical sources, tailored to the needs of historians. Needless to say, we are happy to receive suggestions of new projects deserving of digitization and publication, whether as part of MEMSO, or as separate projects. TannerRitchie uses Open Source software and standards, and is committed to web architecture that will enable reuse of our products as technology changes, and by future generations.
